A useful Singapore grooming handover should name the products and explain which area each is for. Ear cleaner is not eye rinse, and neither product should be used to hide a painful new problem. Regular observation is valuable; routine deep cleaning of every healthy ear is not an automatic requirement.
Agree on a plan with the clinic
Tell your vet about repeated ear episodes, swimming, grooming and any current ear medicines. Ask whether cleaning is needed, which formulation fits the ear's condition and how to coordinate it with prescribed treatment. Do not rely on a generic timetable for all floppy-eared dogs.
A painful ear, discharge, bleeding, hearing change or persistent head-shaking warrants advice. Head tilt or loss of balance needs prompt assessment, not another flush at home. An uncertain eardrum status is a reason to check suitability before using a cleaner.
Keep technique simple and comfortable
Cornell's instructions describe gentle massage with appropriate solution and wiping loosened debris, without cotton buds down the canal. Over-cleaning can irritate. Ask for a demonstration and stop if the dog is painful or distressed.
Prepare the towel and pads before starting. Keep the agreed instructions where a helper or family member can check them. Do not mix household alcohol, peroxide or essential oils into an ear-care routine.
Eye stains and a sore eye are different problems
For residue on facial fur, use the method and product your vet recommends, with a fresh clean pad for each side. Keep the bottle tip clean and away from the eye. Do not put ear cleaner, whitening chemicals or an unapproved human eye medicine near it.
Redness, discharge and rubbing can occur with dry-eye disease, as the ACVO owner resource explains. Squinting, cloudiness, pain or a sudden sight change needs veterinary attention. Removing visible residue is not a diagnosis.
Compare local options by purpose
Singapore listings at Pet Lovers Centre include Virbac Epi-Otic III Ear Cleanser and Yours Droolly Sterile Eye Wash. They illustrate separate categories; do not assume one formula is interchangeable with the other or that both are required.
Pure Majesty Pets has a 120 mL Dog Ear Cleaner with ingredients including salicylic acid, aloe and panthenol, and distinct 120 mL Dog Eye Drops marketed for non-medicated hygiene. Review the correct full label with the clinic. We do not present these as antibiotics, guaranteed infection prevention or universally non-stinging products.
Make the routine easy to audit
Ask the groomer what was used and pass on any veterinary restrictions. Keep a brief log if several carers share care. Do not automatically add an extra clean after every walk or bath when the agreed plan says otherwise.
Store products in original packaging, keep caps closed and follow expiry and discard instructions. If the dog travels to boarding, send written directions rather than an unlabelled decanted bottle.
Compare the final S$ cost, delivery arrangements and seller details. A large bottle is not better value if it encourages unnecessary use or expires before it is needed. For recurring symptoms, request an itemised clinic estimate rather than repeatedly purchasing stronger-sounding cleaners.
Can this save every future vet visit?
No. Appropriate hygiene and noticing change are useful, but ear and eye diseases still require diagnosis. Read our eye warning-sign guide to help describe a concern promptly.
