Why Is My Dog So Itchy? Skin Support for Philippine Pet Parents

Dog skin and coat itching guide — relief for itchy skin and a healthy coat

Why a shiny-coat product may not solve the itch

A dog that scratches through the night needs more than a promise of softer fur. For Philippine pet parents, the useful distinction is between coat maintenance and an uncomfortable skin problem. Hair on clothes can be ordinary shedding; redness, wounds, repeated ear trouble or nonstop paw licking should move the decision from the shopping cart to a veterinary examination.

Bring the pattern, not just a photograph

Write down when the problem began, where your dog scratches and whether other pets are affected. Mention recent grooming, food changes, treats and parasite prevention. Photos help show progression, but they cannot distinguish all causes. Avoid applying several sprays before the visit, particularly on raw areas; tell the vet what has already been used.

Fleas, mites, allergic disease and secondary bacterial or yeast problems can produce overlapping signs. Skin sampling and an ear examination may be needed. An infection may require targeted treatment while the reason it keeps recurring is investigated. “It's the weather” or “it's yeast” is not an adequate conclusion from smell alone.

Keep food-allergy testing interpretable

A veterinary elimination diet is more structured than changing from one retail flavour to another. The selected food must be used consistently, and confirmation may involve a supervised return to the original diet. Check chews, snacks and flavoured products with the vet. Fish, chicken or hydrolysed ingredients in a supplement are not automatically compatible with every trial.

Choose support without promising a cure

Review the regular diet first. Fatty-acid support may be considered as part of longer-term care, but it should not delay effective itch relief or infection treatment. Compare EPA and DHA information with professional guidance; the total oil weight is not the same number. Additional vitamins and minerals are not automatically needed when a dog eats suitable complete food.

Collagen contributes a different ingredient category, not a demonstrated universal answer to allergy or shedding. There is no reliable promise that every dog will scratch less by a particular week. Likewise, an oral liquid does not automatically outperform a properly selected topical product: they may have entirely different purposes.

Two Philippine references with different jobs

Pet Logic Skin & Coat Health chews provide an oral product comparison; the published formula includes a chicken base. The Fur Life Soothing Oatmeal 2-in-1, listed at Pet Express in a one-litre presentation, is a grooming wash. Neither listing proves a cure for infection or establishes which brand sells most locally.

Check the exact pack and current ingredient panel rather than relying on a reseller's headline. Compare daily serving cost in pesos for oral products, and intended use for shampoos. Ask your vet about bathing frequency and rinsing rather than assuming daily washing will fix persistent itch.

A considered Pure Majesty Pets option

The Pure Majesty Pets skin-support soft chews list oils, quercetin, biotin, colostrum and other ingredients in a hydrolysed pork-liver base. Review the complete composition if your dog has food sensitivities or takes other supplements. These are oral nutritional chews, not antihistamines, antibiotics or an antifungal treatment.

Make one agreed change and record sleep interruption, licking and lesion progression. Coat appearance alone does not show that an allergy is controlled. Seek prompt care for painful, spreading or oozing areas, marked swelling or a dog that is lethargic or off food; do not wait several weeks for a supplement to work.
