After your dog comes home from surgery, it is natural to want to help healing along. Collagen should not be treated as a shortcut. The operating team’s instructions on medicines, food, incision care and movement come first, whether the procedure was a routine soft-tissue operation or orthopaedic surgery such as TPLO.
What the postoperative study actually tested
A 2024 trial in 50 TPLO dogs evaluated ARTHROSHINE HA², a specific type-II-collagen-based preparation. Objective gait measures favoured supplementation, but owners’ assessments did not differ. The product was supplied by the sponsor. Read the original study.
This does not establish that Pure Majesty Pets has the same effect, that collagen closes an incision faster or that recovery restrictions can be shortened. TPLO rehabilitation is not interchangeable with recovery after abdominal, dental or spinal surgery. Ingredient names alone cannot transfer a study’s outcome to another formulation.
Keep the discharge plan at the centre
Ask who to contact after hours, when to give each medicine and what adverse signs require a call. Do not add a supplement in the first days simply because discharge paperwork does not mention one. Provide the full ingredient panel, including oils and flavouring, and ask when—or whether—it can be introduced.
Report reduced appetite, vomiting or diarrhoea promptly according to the surgical team’s instructions. Do not mask a possible medication reaction with new digestive products. Avoid abrupt diet changes or replacing a complete meal with broth, gelatin or collagen; the team should set the feeding target for the procedure and your dog’s health.
Prepare the Malaysian home for controlled recovery
- Create a quiet resting area with secure footing and no route to jump onto furniture.
- Plan the trip from car to home, including stairs or a condo lift, before discharge.
- Ask for demonstration of any approved support sling or lifting method.
- Keep the incision and bedding dry during rainy-weather toilet trips, following the surgeon’s wound instructions.
- Give every family member the same medication and activity record.
The American College of Veterinary Surgeons emphasises restricted activity and directed rehabilitation after cruciate surgery. A dog seeming energetic is not clearance for stairs, swimming or off-lead play. The surgeon decides progression and rechecks.
Compare supplements only after approval
Pet Lovers Centre Malaysia lists NaturVet Glucosamine Double Strength with MSM and YowUp Dog Collagen Joint Chicken, 115 g. A tablet and a complementary yogurt-style food differ in ingredients, serving and diet contribution. Neither listing proves benefit after your dog’s operation or a Malaysian leadership ranking.
For a dog on a restricted diet, food flavours and protein sources matter. Do not add several joint products together or assume a larger ingredient amount matches the active preparation in a clinical trial. Prioritise transport and recheck costs before an optional supplement purchase.
Considering Pure Majesty Pets during rehabilitation
Pure Majesty Pets Liquid Collagen lists hydrolysed collagen types I and III, undenatured type II and other ingredients, including salmon oil and pork bone broth. Show the current formula to the surgical team. If approved, follow the received label and agreed timing; liquid convenience does not establish faster healing or superiority over another format.
Contact the clinic urgently for an opening incision, discharge, worsening redness, sudden loss of limb use or marked deterioration. Breathing difficulty, pale gums or collapse is an emergency. Keep the cone or other prescribed protection in place and maintain rechecks. Recovery is guided by healing and function, not a supplement calendar.
